Prodek install Car Rax at Synetiq Doncaster, Europe’s largest breaker yard. The 27-acre headquarter site underwent a two-phase cantilever racking installation to create a whopping 1525 car storage spaces. Synetiq Vehicle Salvage and Green Parts
Synetiq operates a network of vehicle recycling sites throughout the UK, with the company’s headquarters located in Doncaster. Synetiq are leaders in UK vehicle salvage, dismantling, and recycling. The team process over 70,000 vehicles every year in Doncaster alone. The Doncaster team recently hosted BBC’s Top Gear team in their search for quality second-hand vehicles.

Vehicle recycling is a growing industry. Not only do vehicle recyclers offer fantastic value to garages and bodyshops, but they also help to reduce carbon emissions within the car industry. Recycled parts, such as door panels, are available at around half the price of new parts, keeping costs down for all stakeholders.
Storage is a challenge for most businesses and nowhere is this truer than the vehicle salvage industry. Each second-hand vehicle is a valuable asset, requiring protection from damage during handling and storage. The common perception of a scrap yard couldn’t be further from the truth when it comes to the modern vehicle salvage operation.
Undamaged parts of reclaimed vehicles are assessed by an engineer before being listed online, ready to be shipped out to repairers. End users purchasing reclaimed parts expect to receive their order within 24 hours and in the advertised condition. Therefore, when an order is received, the pressure is on to retrieve stock and individual parts, without delay or damage.
Large-Scale Vehicle Storage
The first phase of the Synetiq Doncaster car storage racks project created 765 storage locations. The initial installation consisted of 38 units of 5-tier double-sided Car Rax and 77 units of 5-tier single-sided Car Rax, at 8350mm high. Each pair of cantilever arms is capable of supporting 750kgs of uniformly distributed weight with each upright column supporting up to 3000kg over the top 4 rack tiers. Guide rails total 787 linear metres to aide smooth movement at maximum – safe – FLT speeds.
Phase two of the project saw the installation of a further 76 double-sided 5-tier Car Rax to add another 760 car storage locations at the Doncaster site. Heavy-duty guide rails totalled 784 linear metres during phase two, complete with radius lead ins.
Car Rax utilises a simple design to meet the specific needs of vehicle recyclers, while delivering far-reaching benefits. As an official Made in Sheffield product, Car Rax is a robust, long-lasting solution, manufactured to BS5950 structural use of steelwork and loadings in accordance with BS6399 Part 1. Manufactured using hot rolled universal beam sections with a BS EN ISO 1461 hot dip galvanised finish for longevity.

The towering heights of Synetiq’s car storage racks offer the capacity recyclers need to provide the service customers expect in the age of eCommerce convenience. Car Rax makes it easy for FLT operators to avoid damaging stock during retrieval and storage.
