Heavy Duty Racking

Heavy Duty Racking - Prodek

Prodek Heavy Duty Racking Systems

Heavy duty racking is designed to free up valuable floor space by relocating large, heavy stock items onto robust storage racks.

Heavy duty racking systems are designed and manufactured to bespoke measurements to accommodate the specific requirements of bulky raw materials and heavyweight finished goods.

The most common uses for heavy duty racking are storing large metal products such as steel coils, press plates and tooling, which cannot be stored using conventional pallet racking systems.

Prodek heavy duty racking is a cost-effective storage solution, consisting of multiple beam levels allowing easy access to individual stock locations. Similar to conventional racking which use frames and load bearing beams, heavy duty racking uses the same structural layout, but with more robust materials to carry much greater loads.

Heavy duty racking is manufactured using hot rolled steel sections able to store loads over 10,000kgs per level. The flexibility of this racking design means additional frames and beams can be added later, as space and storage requirements develop.

Ideal to store:

  • Medium to heavy loads by forklift truck
  • Large stock items unsuitable for conventional racking
  • Changing stock lines via adjustable construction

Optimise Warehouse Operations with Heavy Duty Racking

Many warehouse managers are faced with storage challenges, often due to the size and weight of the items they are tasked with storing.

It is cost-efficient to purchase raw materials in volume, though this does present a challenge to the warehouse team.

When optimising warehouse operations, we recommend beginning with your storage requirements. Every square metre in a warehouse is a valuable asset, so installing heavy duty warehouse shelving is the best way to safely make use of vertical warehouse space.

Ready-made or shop-bought racking systems are simply not robust enough to safely store heavy or bulky raw materials, work in progress, or finished goods within a busy warehouse.

Prodek design and install bespoke heavy duty industrial racking systems to deliver perfect-fit product and raw material storage, maximising available capacity.

Bespoke Heavy Duty Industrial Racking Systems

Prodek site engineers are your expert warehouse space planners, experienced using mechanical lifting and access equipment, we appreciate the challenges of daily warehouse operations and regulations regarding work equipment use.

We provide a full survey and risk assessments, with layout drawings, to demonstrate how our heavy duty racks can transform warehouse space optimisation.

Heavy duty racking is constructed on-site and installed using secure floor fittings. The floor onto which the racking is installed must be flat and solid, such as poured cement, to ensure operational safety and product longevity.

To fully maximise available storage space, heavy duty racking can be installed in a narrow aisle configuration, however this will require specialist handling equipment that can run along floor mounted rails.

Heavy Duty Racking – FAQ’s

Heavy duty racking is a bespoke racking system that is designed to optimise floor space by relocating large and/or heavyweight stock onto robust duty storage racks.

Typically speaking, racking occupies more space, offers deeper storage, and is stacked much higher than shelving, which is laid out in single sections compared to racking which is constructed in several bays.

The main types of racks include Cantilever RackingVertical RackingPigeon Hole Racking, and Heavy Duty Racking. However, there are a multitude of alternative racking solutions to meet a variety of specifications and requirements.

Manufactured using hot rolled steel sections, our heavy duty racking systems are capable of storing loads over 10,000 kgs per level.

The maximum weight for warehouse racking can vary greatly depending on the type of racking system, its design, and the manufacturer’s specifications. Typically speaking, racking systems are designed to accommodate weight loads ranging from a few hundred pounds to several tons.

To calculate the racking capacity of a rack system, multiply the maximum item load by the number of loads per beam – then multiply that number by the total beam levels per bay.
