RECLAIMED PARTS STORAGE
Car door panels are one of the most popular reclaimed car parts with high demand for bodyshop’s to repair collision damage. One of the key challenges within the collision repair supply chain is reclaimed parts storage. Car door panel storage from Prodek ensure stocks remain damage-free while fully maximising available storage capacity.
The used car parts or the green parts industry in the UK is a key part of the collision repair industry supply chain, including Vehicle Repair Bodyshops and consumers performing repair work at home. Reclaimed car parts are widely considered to be a more environmentally responsible supply chain within the collision repair industry. Used car parts also offer Repair Bodyshops and consumers better value for money, typically costing less than half the price of an equivalent new car part. However, as the demand in this supply chain increases, so do customer expectations.
The Vehicle Recyclers Association, also known as the VRA, set the standard for the used car parts supply chain. The VRA are working to raise awareness of correct car part grading and the need to accurately describe the condition of reclaimed parts when a customer is sourcing a specific used car part. Giving customers confidence in the used car parts they are buying, and the business selling them, is essential in increasing the acceptability and use of green parts.
The ability to fulfil an order within 24 hours is also drawing a distinction between the most favoured used car parts suppliers. Picking and packing of reclaimed car door panels for instance, requires fast and accurate selection of stock. Repair Bodyshops work to meet the expectations of the car insurance industry and the car owner themselves, so need to be able to turn a repair job around quickly. Receiving an incorrect car door panel or one which was not sold as described – requiring unplanned repair of up to 5 hours – will certainly make the Repair Bodyshop consider a different reclaimed car parts supplier
Ensure Reclaimed Car Parts Meet Expectation
To ensure reclaimed door panels are stored safely, maintain their described condition, and are quick and easy to pick for an order, Prodek have developed a Car Door Panel Storage Rack system, bespoke to the Vehicle Recycling industry.
Initially developed for a recent Charles Trent Vehicle Recycling Distribution Centre in Poole, Car Door Panel Storage offers a range of benefits to the used car parts supply chain:
- Safe and secure storage for car door panels
- Efficient order picking for rapid dispatch
- Easy to label aisles and barcode parts bays
- Maximise every square meter of storage capacity.
To meet supply chain demands, Charles Trent dispatched over 75,000 green parts in 2020, supported by the bespoke Car Door Panels Racks by Prodek.
Car Door Panel Storage for Accurate Order Fulfilment
Car Door Panel Storage Racks are designed and installed to meet the specific needs of the individual customer and their warehouse. Prodek design Car Door Panel Storage Racks to fully maximise the height and floorspace capacity of a warehouse, provided there is a solid and even floor surface to anchor the racking installation to.
A reclaimed Car Door Panel Rack consists of a robust racking structure, firmly secured to a solid floor surface. Car Door Panel Racks are manufactured using a heavy-duty pallet racking or longspan shelving system with specialist ‘D’ arm supports attached to the underside of each horizontal beam. A wingnut on the end of each ‘D’ arm allows the support to be adjusted for the depth of each individual car door and secured in place once loaded into the rack.
To ensure the used car door panel is not scratched while being stored or picked for an order, the racking deck is fitted with quality timber.
The horizontal beams of this racking construction allow aisles to be numbered and each bay to receive a self-adhesive barcode label. This system can dramatically increase the rate and accuracy of order fulfilment.
The location of each car door can be scanned, noted in a business system or spreadsheet when the stock is initially stored. This means the order picker knows exactly where the car door panel is stored when a customer order is received. This level of detail not only reduces the order fulfilment lead time, but it also goes a long way to ensuring orders are delivered accurately
