Prodek Vertical Racking for Upright Storage
Vertical racking provides a safe and secure method to store long items in an upright position.
This racking system optimises vertical storage space and is designed to speed up safe product picking.
Also known as lean-to racks, vertical racking is ideally suited to storing a range of long materials or products, from pipe and timber to steel conduit and extrusions. Vertical racking systems are ideal for loading materials from the front, allowing stored items to be easily hand-picked, and are often used in trade outlets and warehouses.
Vertical racking can be installed as a standalone storage solution or integrated within a larger racking installation, to fully optimise valuable warehouse space.
Vertical Racking:
- Metal or plastic pipe and extrusions
- Steel conduit
- Lengths of timber
- Sheet materials
- Ladders

The key components of vertical racking are an A-frame with a wide base to securely store items vertically. The base is designed to ensure long products are stored upright, at an angle, to avoid products falling. Adjustable D-shaped dividers, or spigot arms, are placed along the length of the A-frames, providing compartments to separate different products or segregate items into batches.
The wide storage base of vertical racking provides a fixing point which can be securely attached to a solid, flat floor. The base can be installed as a simple frame with one end of the product resting on the floor surface. Alternatively, a base deck can be fitted to protect the product ends. The vertical racking base can be completed with a metal or timber deck to protect stored products from damage.

What are the benefits of using a vertical racking system?
Vertical racking systems offer several benefits, including increased storage capacity, better space utilisation, improved organisation, and easier access to items stored at various heights. They also contribute to better inventory management and can enhance overall warehouse or storage facility efficiency.
Are vertical racking systems suitable for all types of stock?
Vertical racking systems are versatile and can accommodate various types of stock, including pallets, boxes, crates, and other standardised storage units. However, it is essential to assess the weight, dimensions, and handling requirements of the items to ensure they are compatible with the system.
What safety measures should be considered when using vertical racking systems?
Safety is crucial when working with vertical racking systems. Regular racking inspections, proper weight distribution on the shelves, securing loads to prevent shifting, and maintaining a clear aisle space are essential safety practices. Additionally, training personnel on safe handling and operation is vital.

What maintenance is required for vertical racking systems?
Regular maintenance is essential to keep your vertical racking system in optimal condition. This includes checking for any signs of damage, repairing or replacing damaged components, and ensuring that the system remains level and stable.
Can vertical racking systems be integrated with warehouse management systems (WMS)?
Yes, modern vertical racking systems can be integrated with warehouse management systems to streamline inventory management and optimise storage space. WMS integration can provide real-time data on stock levels, item locations, and facilitate efficient order fulfillment.
Are vertical racking systems cost-effective compared to other storage solutions?
Vertical racking systems are generally considered cost-effective due to their ability to maximise space utilisation. While the initial investment might be higher than some traditional storage options, the increased storage capacity and improved efficiency often lead to long-term cost savings.
